Vicus Mercurii and Juno

A crowded commercial street bears Vicus Mercurii. A large Juno statue has painted skin, hair and clothing. Commerce, Roman religion and colored sculpture coexist in everyday urban space.

[E9]

Rumors about Pax

Two plebeians on public transport discuss trouble on Pax, blockade rumors and difficulty contacting a legionary relative. These are citizens' reports, not confirmation of the blockade order's scope or cause.

[E9]

Family communications

Another plebeian woman describes delayed messages from her legionary husband. Personal contact between soldiers and families exists, and its disruption introduces the crisis into life on Terra; the reason for delays is unknown.

[E9]

Via Imperii Jumpgate

Gladius is labeled a legion transport ship near Via Imperii Jumpgate. A jumpgate linked to Via Imperii is explicit; its operating principle and share of interstellar transport are not disclosed.

[E9]

Gladius: communications room

Legionary quarters, an armory and a personal communications room appear. Veni Vidi Vici is written above stored personal weapons; a legionary uses a personal terminal in the separate communications room.

[E9]

Gladius and the Ninth Legion

A background inscription in the communications room appears to read Legio IX Hispana. It suggests a connection to Gladius, without establishing the entire ship's permanent assignment or the embarked unit's mission.

[E9]

Pax: Residential Sector 5

Pax is explicitly a Roman colony. From orbit its surface appears marked by fire or smoke. Residential Sector 5 contains many civilians, including families, establishing a lived-in settlement facing a crisis.

[E9]

Auxiliaries in Sector 4

Auxiliaries are shown controlling a situation among gathered civilians in Sector 4. Auxiliary troops are deployed during the colony's civilian crisis, but orders, evacuation plans and operational scope are not given.

[E9]

Damage and fear in Sector 5

Collapsed structures, fallen people and damaged facilities appear in Sector 5. A frightened provincial wants to return to Terra. Damage and civilian fear are visible, but casualty totals and individual survival are not confirmed.

[E9]

Monstra

Monstra is an extraterrestrial research facility. Its gate bears Salvete in Terra Novi Initii, translated in the video as “welcome to the land of a new beginning.” The hopeful motto contrasts with the damaged interior.

[E9]

Monstra: sublevel

Large tanks, nonhuman organisms and research equipment fill Monstra's sublevel. The scenes establish that Romans have obtained extraterrestrial life and handle it in a dedicated research facility.

[E9]

Cyclops

Cyclops appears outside a storage tank in a corridor of Monstra's sublevel. It has a large central eye, smaller additional eyes and apparent blood-like marks. It appears uncontrolled, but its origin and role in Pax's destruction are not established.

[E9]

Return to Rome

The closing sequence returns to Terra and Roma, with Schola Linguae Graecae and a thermopolium. Education and meals continue in the capital. A Greek-language school is established, but universal spoken Greek is not.

Interpretations and open questions

Episode 9

The edit links Pax’s damage, Monstra and Cyclops, but does not reveal the disaster’s initial cause or sequence. Disease, an experiment or deliberate release are not confirmed. Censorship, equipment failure and faster-than-light communication are likewise unconfirmed.
