The Fall of Troy
The Trojan War breaks out. After a prolonged and devastating alliance war, the Greek coalition defeats the Trojan alliance, and Troy falls.
The Escape
Aeneas escapes the destroyed city with his people, carrying his father Anchises on his back.
Arrival in Italy
Guided by divine revelation, Aeneas travels to the Italian Peninsula, the birthplace of his ancestor Dardanus. He arrives in the region of Latium.

Amulius exiles his brother Numitor and seizes the throne. To extinguish the royal bloodline, he forces Numitor’s daughter Rhea Silvia to become a Vestal Virgin.

Abandonment
Reluctant to directly kill the children of a Vestal Virgin, Amulius orders the twins to be abandoned along the Tiber River.

The shepherd Faustulus discovers the children and raises them with his wife Larentia.

Roman MythologyFounding of Rome
Romulus and Remus clash over the interpretation of auspices to determine who will rule the new city. After Remus is killed, Romulus founds Rome as its sole ruler.
Fratricide
As the conflict escalates, Remus crosses the sacred boundary wall established by Romulus. Enraged by the violation, Romulus kills his brother.
Definition of AUC
Roman historians date events using AUC (Ab Urbe Condita), meaning “from the founding of the city,” counted from the founding of Rome in 753 BC.

Library of Alexandria
Ptolemy I of Egypt begins construction of the Library of Alexandria.
469 AUC (285 BC)
The Crash
An asteroid known as Baetulus crashes near Alexandria. Greek scholars later call this event "The Return of Prometheus."
Divine Message
Scholars who investigate the crash report to Ptolemy II that Prometheus has delivered a message to humanity.
The Decipherment
Ptolemy II summons scholars from across the world to Alexandria and entrusts them with deciphering the divine script at the Library. Greek scholars such as Euclid and Archimedes participate in this long-term effort.

Conquest of Egypt
Rome conquers Egypt. The message of Prometheus, preserved at the Library of Alexandria, is transferred to Rome. Rome constructs the Temple of Prometheus to house it.
The Codex
From this point, Rome refers to Prometheus's message as the Codex. Scholars working on its decipherment are brought to Rome under imperial protection.
Intellectual Shift
These scholars drive rapid technological advancement in Rome. Those who refuse Rome's summons are imprisoned or erased from history.
754 AUC (1 AD)
The Prophecy
A Vestal Virgin claims to receive a divine revelation concerning the Codex. She warns that the Codex has the power to consume Rome, but that Rome will be accepted among the gods so long as it does not break its oath to the Roman gods.
Political Shift
This prophecy strengthens conservative aristocratic factions amid rapid social change.
Privilege
Roman nobles introduce the law of privilegium, restricting access to Codex knowledge to those granted special permission.
Oath to the Gods
Deviation from Roman tradition is now regarded as a rejection of Rome's oath to the gods. Some later historians suggest the prophecy may have been the result of anxiety rather than divine revelation.

Revolution
A Computational and Industrial Revolution unfolds. All technological development comes under centralized control of the Roman upper class.
Codex Interpreters
