Quirinal Hill

A philosopher appears in a library on Quirinal Hill. A domus contains a Shakyamuni figure, a silk trader and a patrician: eastern goods and religious or philosophical imagery enter elite Roman domestic space.

[E5]

Forum Aureum

Forum Aureum and its lower level appear. Plebeians, provincials and patricians share streets and insula scenes. A patrician's presence in an insula does not establish residence there.

[E5]

Freedwomen in commerce

A figurine seller and a sandal seller are identified as freedwomen. Their commercial activity is visible, while legal ownership of shops and the degree of economic independence remain unspecified.

[E5]

Subura: transport and security

Subura Gate III, Subura Station, Vigiles security officers and an Excubitorium security station with a Vigil appear. Public transport and local security facilities coexist in the district.

[E5]

Urban slave labor

Slaves work at a waste-incineration plant outside Rome and in the city's sewers. Advanced urban infrastructure still depends on enslaved labor; these tasks are not fully automated.

[E5]

Naval shipwrights

The Collegium of Naval Shipwrights includes people labeled patrician and plebeian. Several social statuses participate in a shipbuilding organization, but ownership, authority and employment arrangements are not disclosed.

[E5]

Gradivus

Gradivus is identified as a Martian city with residents and a freedman in an insula. Mars has civilian urban life and housing as well as military bases and spaceports.

[E5]

Navalia Maxima III

Navalia Maxima III is an orbital shipyard at Mars with many legion transports and a patrician. The numeral III does not establish how many other shipyards exist or where they are.

[E5]

Slave ship → Vulcanus

A slave ship bound for Vulcanus contains hypersleep chambers in its cargo bay and a slave trader. A Fortuna figure stands in the cockpit. Slave transport and suspended sleep are shown aboard the same vessel.

[E5]

Vulcanus Gateway

Vulcanus has volcanic terrain, conspicuous lava and a gateway staffed by an overseer. Supervisory personnel appear at the arrival point associated with the slave ship's destination.

[E5]

Metalla Polliana

The mining base contains a supply vehicle, large industrial vehicles, slaves and an overseer. Mining, provisioning, forced labor and supervision are combined in one facility.

[E5]

Athenaeum

A Stoic philosopher appears at Rome's Athenaeum. Alongside the earlier Shakyamuni figure, this shows varied philosophical and religious imagery, without establishing official religious status or a comprehensive tolerance policy.

[E5]

Security and special operations

A slave hunter in Subura, an intelligence officer in Rome and Speculatores on Mars appear separately. Speculatores is explicitly a Roman special-operations unit. These scenes do not establish one chain of command or make the hunter a state official.

[E5]

Interpretations and open questions

Episode 5

The ship-to-mine sequence suggests a labor supply chain, not a single owner of every person and facility. Martian clouds and atmosphere do not establish terraforming history or extent. The slave hunter’s status as a state official is unconfirmed.
