Schola Prospectorum

Ostia's exploration school bears Ad Astra per Aspera, “to the stars through hardship.” A freedman and a patrician appear, but neither is conclusively identified as a student.

Collegia and resources

The narration describes deep space as a frontier of competing Collegia. Missions seek to move ahead of rivals and secure resources first; exploration is also organizational competition.

[E4]

Risk for freedpeople

The narration says few freedpeople sent into deep space return, and survivors return changed. Dangerous frontier labor is explicit, but no numerical mortality rate or employment contract is given.

[E4]

Petasus

Petasus is a deep-space planetary survey vessel. A briefing room, living quarters, utility bay, Frontier Suit and explorer show facilities for planetary surveys, extended stays and field exploration.

[E4]

Orcus

Orcus is labeled Deep Space. An uncharted region, Outpost Ridge, explorers at an outpost and a Roman flag appear. A survey foothold exists beside terrain that remains uncharted.

[E4]

Retired explorer

A retired explorer lives in an insula. The scene establishes life after active exploration, without establishing typical earnings or retirement provision for the profession.

[E4]

Ostia: livestock and funerals

A breeding facility contains livestock and a freedman; a columbarium has a manager. Animal breeding and funerary storage persist in modern facilities. The columbarium is not labeled as exclusive to explorers.

[E4]

Rome: homes and knowledge

A patrician, a plebeian in an insula, a library bearing Veritas and a Codex interpreter appear in Rome. Elite housing, communal housing and specialized knowledge institutions coexist.

[E4]

Vesta Gateway

The orbital installation at Vesta contains a Vestal antechamber, reception chamber, a Vestal Virgin and a ship inspector. Religious activity and ship inspection occupy the same facility.

[E4]

Tabellarius

Tabellarius is an interplanetary freighter with shared living space, a cargo hold and several freedpeople. Freedpeople participate in regular interplanetary logistics as well as deep-space exploration.

[E4]

Caupona

Near Via Imperii, Caupona contains a thermopolium, a horreum grain store and a balneum bath. Sacks and a Ceres figure appear in the store; Apodyterium labels the changing area. Food, supplies and bathing share a logistics stop.

[E4]

Benna Martis

Benna Martis is a heavy-equipment transport ship labeled Navis Media Class. Its vehicle bay carries several vehicles and a legion technician appears, establishing specialized transport and technical personnel.

[E4]

Hispana

Hispana is labeled Navis Magna Class, departing from Via Imperii. Legionary quarters, an armamentarium, utility deck, centurion, legionaries, a slave and a Vestal Virgin in a restricted area combine military, labor and religious functions aboard.

[E4]

Interpretations and open questions

Episode 4

The school–ship–outpost sequence suggests an exploration system, without specifying every institution’s ownership or command. Collegia are not automatically modern corporations; Navis Media and Navis Magna do not constitute a complete ship-class system.
