All 13 setting notes from Episode 3, with observations, interpretations and unresolved questions.
Status and occupation
Senators, aristocrats, plebeians, provincials, freedpeople, slaves, legionaries, auxiliary recruits and Vestal Virgins are separately identified. These labels concern status, origin or occupation and should not be collapsed into a single hierarchy.
Senate and Gens Julia
Rome's Curia Senatus Pacis and senators appear alongside the name Gens Julia, the Julian family. The Senate's actual political power and direct descent from the ancient family are not explained.
Housing on Pax
A provincial is shown in an insula on Pax. Mula Martis also names Pax as its destination, linking civilian housing to the space transport network.
Regio IX
Rome's Regio IX contains an insula, a thermopolium and a library. Housing, food service and reading facilities retain Roman names and spatial forms.
Lares
A small figure inside an insula is labeled Lares, a household god. Religion appears within plebeian housing as well as in temples and public ceremonies.
Codex interpreters
Male and female Codex interpreters work in Regio IX's library, which aristocrats also visit. The profession is established, but the material interpreted and its access rules are not specified.
Gladius I: equipment
Gladius I contains legionary bunks, a mess hall, corridors and an armory. Weapons are labeled Pilum III and Scutum. Roma Invicta, Veni Vidi Vici and eagle symbols decorate military equipment and spaces.
Mula Martis: crew
A first officer, crew, freedpeople and slaves appear aboard Mula Martis. Freed and enslaved people participate in space transport, but individual employment and ownership relationships are unexplained.
Hypersleep chambers
Mula Martis has many hypersleep chambers in its cargo bay. The scene establishes suspended-sleep transport technology but does not identify the occupants, travel distance or duration.
Via Imperii and labor
Via Imperii is a huge structure orbiting Terra, with a plebeian in its workshop. Separate scenes show a Greek architect and a slave workshop in Rome, placing advanced infrastructure alongside human labor.
Ala Martis
Ala Martis heads for Mars Gateway with a living sacrificial ram in its cargo bay. Animals destined for Roman religious rites are cargo in the space logistics system.
Mars Gateway: sectors
Military, civic and sacred sectors contain legionaries and auxiliary recruits, plebeians and provincials, and Vestal Virgins respectively. Military, civilian and religious functions share one orbital gateway.
Auxiliary induction
Auxiliary recruits, a commanding officer and an induction appear, distinguishing auxiliary recruitment and command from legionaries. The sacred sector also contains a separate Vestal antechamber; citizenship after service is not established here.
Interpretations and open questions
Episode 3
The Senate’s final decision-making power, citizenship after auxiliary service and Via Imperii’s precise operation are not established. Contrasts between central and Pax housing suggest inequality but do not explain its causes.
